Originally settled in 1884 as the Stoney Creek Settlement, Melfort is a small Saskatchewan city located just over 170 KM northeast of Saskatoon. Formerly known as the “City of Northern Lights” for its frequent aurora borealis visits, it boasts a strong population of about 5,955 people and an affordable average home price of just over $211,500.
Now proudly owning the motto of “Play Melfort,” the city is known for its incredible recreational facilities and opportunities. These include the Northern Lights Palace Pool and Arena, Kerry Vickar Centre, baseball diamonds, campground, and the well-appointed Spruce Haven Park with a skatepark, splash park, and community gardens. The city also features a public library, museum, and historic post office built in the Romanesque Revival style and bringing an impressive maturity.
The city of Melfort is found in a primarily agricultural area, with very productive black loamy soil. This makes it a popular choice with farming families, located both in and outside the city. As such, the city is rich in amenities to accommodate not just their own immediate residents, but those in the surrounding area, as well. You will find no shortage of the daily essentials here, from shopping to dining, medical care and more!
