Found in the heart of the province just over an hour’s drive north of Saskatoon, Prince Albert is the 3rd largest city in Saskatchewan. Known as the “Gateway to the North,” it is the last major centre before entering the far less populated northern zone of the province. Named in Cree as kistahpinanihk, which roughly translates to “sitting pretty place” or “meeting place,” it is now home to about 37,756 people and offers an attractive average home price of just over $236,100.
The major players in the local economy of Prince Albert are the forestry industry, agriculture, and government service sector. The city is home to 3 of Saskatchewan’s prisons—2 correctional centres and the province’s federal penitentiary—making them significant employers in the area. One other particular area of opportunity and growth in the past few years, though, has been the mining industry, with diamond and uranium prospects currently being explored in the surrounding area.
Aside from being a great place to work, the city of Prince Albert is also a great place to live. Offering all the essential amenities, residents can easily access all the shopping, dining, schools, personal services, and medical care they could need. They can also enjoy a long list of recreational and leisure opportunities, including a busy hockey community, historic trails, and all the natural beauty to be discovered in Prince Albert National Park just 50 KM north of the city.
