Whether you are moving to the Saskatoon area for work or are simply looking for a change, you may find yourself searching for surrounding communities, rather than homes for sale in the city itself. While some prefer the shorter commute and extensive access to amenities and entertainment that city living can provide, others may prefer the quiet of a smaller town. Thankfully, there are a number of towns surrounding Saskatoon to choose from—and I’m not talking about just Warman or Martensville, which we already know and love. I'm talking about the many other amazing ones you may not have already heard of!

Here are just a few of the Saskatoon surrounding towns to consider when searching for your next home:

Dalmeny

Dalmeny is a thriving young community located just over 30 kilometers north of Saskatoon. First settled in the early 19th century, the town is now home to just under 2000 residents according to the last census and is quite a popular commuter town, just a 15-minute drive from the city!

While it may not be in the city, you certainly won’t feel without in this wonderful, little town! Its abundance of amenities include two schools teaching from pre-kindergarten all the way to grade 12, several local businesses, churches, and a newly-built arena. Not to mention, you’ll love the amazing, supportive community spirit and the way it comes alive in the many local activities and events throughout the year.

With an average price of $289,000, homes for sale in Dalmeny are an excellent choice for first time home buyers. Plus, there are even some excellent land and lot opportunities in the town, too; for those considering a dream build!

Aberdeen

About 40 kilometres northeast of the city, you’ll find the quiet and serene community of Aberdeen, settled along the railway lines just east of Warman. While its initial people-puller was its bustling wheat business, it is now a popular choice for farmers and non-farmers alike!

Today, residents of Aberdeen enjoy the many recreational opportunities afforded to the town, including the Aberdeen Rec Complex, which features an incredible library, ice rink, dance studio, and more. You can even find a curling rink and bowling alley, so your weekends will never be without activity!

If you’re looking at homes for sale in Aberdeen, you can expect the average price to be just over $300,000, making it an easily affordable opportunity for family and starter homes alike!

Radisson

One of the most peaceful communities in Saskatchewan, Radisson is a beautiful community located just 66 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon. About a 40 minute drive to the city, this town is the perfect place to enjoy all that country life has to offer—including tree-lined boulevards, grassy areas, and natural beauty—while still being close to all the urban amenities you need.

A fantastically close-knit community, Radisson residents are some of the friendliest neighbours you can ever expect to find. And the safety and comfort you’ll feel walking around this town will be unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before—perfect for raising kids!

Extremely affordable, the average price of homes for sale in Radisson is about $116,000, and properties range anywhere from new construction builds to century homes to even mobile homes. No matter what you are looking for, you can find it in this little town.

Asquith

Just a 15 minute drive west of Saskatoon, you can find the awesome little town of Asquith, outfitted with everything you need to live a comfortable life. With gas stations, restaurants, general stores, and even hotels—access to all the necessities is just a short distance from your front door. Not to mention, the Lord Asquith School is renowned for its excellent education from pre-kindergarten to grade 12, with a particular strength for athletics!

The love for recreational activities in Asquith isn’t just confined to the school systems, though! The town itself also boasts an amazing indoor skating rink, as well as one outdoors that also converts to a basketball court and skateboard park in the warmer months. And there’s even a local minor hockey team you can cheer on throughout the season, as well!

The average price for homes in Asquith is about $275,000, with properties coming in a wide variety of shapes and sizes to suit any buyer’s needs.

Dundurn

Dundurn is a well-established town just over 40 kilometres south of Saskatoon and 5 minutes from Blackstrap Provincial Park. Here, you can enjoy all the outdoor recreational activities, including fishing, boating, camping, and more—perfect for nature-lovers. And for those that may prefer slightly less rugged recreation, Whitecap Casino and Dakota Dunes Golf Course are just 20 minutes up the road, while the Saskatchewan International Raceway is 10 minutes south!

Homes for sale in Dundurn have an average price of just under $175,000, and there are often lots available for custom builds!

If you’re moving to the Saskatoon area and searching for the perfect little town to enjoy the peace and quiet, why not take a look at these great finds? Or, check out the many other surrounding communities in the local area! I guarantee that, together, we can find one that perfectly suits your needs!

To be sure, your list is filled with fabulous communities. But just curious. Why did Langham not make the list?
Langham is geared towards growing families with parks and recreation for kids and adults of all ages. Playgrounds, a skate park, a spray park, a bmx track, Yoga in the Park, seniors fitness classes and brand new amazing gym that would rival any gym in the city...and so much more provides recreational activities for everyone.
It's also set up for seniors with affordable housing, access to services and healthcare, a new pharmacy and dental office and when ready, a seniors home.
Langham has a variety of housing from starter homes to magazine worthy homes in the new development.
Langham is growing faster than any community in a 50 km radius of Saskatoon, with new houses and businesses popping up and more to come in the next few years. Now is the time to invest in Langham.
Langham is a short 5 minute drive to access of the North Saskatchewan River for access to fishing, kayaking, hiking and more.
Langham has an excellent education system with 2 schools, one for elementary and one for high school and some of the very best teachers in the area. And a new preschool is set to open later this year!
Langham has a variety of sports teams, from hockey, softball, football, basketball and more.
Langham's crime rate is less than their neighboring towns for everything from thefts to traffic violations and has an excellent Crimewatch team who works with the local police detachment.
Langham has it's own water treatment plant, controlling the cost and quality of water, in house.
Langham is situated just 15 minutes northwest of Saskatoon, all double lane on a major highway, well managed by the Department of Highways because it is the main thoroughfare from Winnipeg to Edmonton, making the commute easier than any on your list.
And most importantly, Langham looks after it's residents! Fundraisers, local clubs, and watchful neighbors all pitch in to help those in need, more than any other committee I've ever lived in. Langhamites welcomes new residents with a pleasant smile and a hearty invitation to anything happening in town!
Truthfully this list could be twice as long, but I'll stop here.
All this begs the question why Langham was not in your top 5. What can we do to make your next top list?

Hi Dione,

I appreciate your reply on my blog post. I agree with you that Langham is a great town. I have sold a few houses there and I have friends there. This isn't meant to be a top 5 list of places to live but to inform people about some of the great towns that surround Saskatoon. I do have plans to include other towns such as Langham in future blog posts similar to this one and you have given me lots of info on the town. I really appreciate your input and when I do another list of towns I will send it your way.

Thanks!
