Emma Lake is my happy place. It’s home to my cabin and some of my fondest memories and when the weather warms, there’s nothing I look forward to more than taking off and heading up to my little oasis in the woods, just 5 kilometres from the village of Christopher Lake. It's the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city—I couldn’t love it more! So I know you will too. And here are just some of the reasons why:
1) Fewer People, More Peace & Quiet
With just 200 people in the area year-round, and 900 in the summer, Emma Lake boasts a very small population—making it an ideal oasis to get away from the busyness of city life. And the same can be said for the village of Christopher Lake, with just 289 people calling it home in the 2016 Census.
Here, you never feel overcrowded. Instead, you’ll find it easy to just breathe and take in a moment of relaxation without a care in the world. That’s probably one of my favorite things about it, honestly!
2) Not Too Far Away
Only 40 kilometres north of Prince Albert, Christopher Lake is easily within reasonable driving distance for small day or weekend trips. Just add another 5 kilometres to that, and you’ve made it to Emma Lake, too!
From Saskatoon, I can usually be at my Emma Lake cabin in just 2 hours, which, to me, seems like just the perfect distance to really feel like you can go into vacation mode. It’s not so far that you feel exhausted by the time you get there, but just far enough that you don’t feel the call of everything you left behind. And if you have kids, it should be just the perfect amount of time that you shouldn’t hear too many “Are we there yet’s?”
3) Great Golfing
If you’re a golfer and are worried about getting too far from the course even for just one weekend, you’ll be thrilled to hear about one of the other fantastic features the Christopher Lake area has to offer—the Emma Lake Golf Course.
Nestled in the gorgeous forest region of the Lakeland area, the Emma Lake Golf Course is hands down one awesome experience for golfers. Spread across just under 6000 acres of greens with all sorts of topographies, there’s never a dull moment from hole to hole. You’ll be able to feel the challenge all the way from 1 to 18, and when the day’s all said and done, you can enjoy a cold brew and some good eats in the Putter’s Lounge before you head back to your little slice of Lakeland heaven!
4) Awesome Amenities
Nervous about making it to the lake and having to fend for yourself for a few days on the stove? Don’t be! The SunnySide Bar Tavern is a great place to relax, unwind, and enjoy a meal you didn’t have to cook. And if you don’t feel like living the restaurant life even for just a couple of hours, they even offer takeout, so you can bring it back to your lakefront cabin, sit by the water, and take in a great meal under the stars!
Plus, if you’re like me and there’s always one thing you forgot to bring, you can find pretty much everything you need at one of the many stores and vendors in the Christopher Lake area—from liquor to groceries to even a laundromat! Trust me, you’ll never feel the hurt of being out of the city even all the way up here!
5) Wildlife & Nature
With Prince Albert National Park just to the north, wildlife spotting is certainly not out of the ordinary up here in the Emma Lake area. So, whether you’re wildlife enthusiast, photographer, or just enjoy catching glimpses of nature that you don’t get to see in Saskatoon, this is one place you’ll love to be!
I couldn’t begin to tell you all of the times I’ve caught an animal walking by my cabin, but over the years I’ve pretty much seen it all! From deer to foxes, you’ll love all the encounters you’ll come across while you’re just out on the lawn enjoying your morning coffee.
6) Fantastic Fishing & Water Sports
With 3 lakes making up what we call “Emma Lake” and 1 large lake being Christopher Lake, the Lakeland area is a fisherman’s dream! From pike to walleye to burbot, not only can you find it all here, but you can even catch it all, too (with your Saskatchewan Anglers License, of course). Simply throw your best cast, reel in a winner, and enjoy a tasty fish fry on the beach with friends!
And if fishing’s not really your game, and you’re happier paddling the water in the afternoon sun in your kayak or paddleboard, the lakes here are also a great place for that, too!
No matter what it is about cabin life that you’re looking for, you can find it all at Emma and Christopher Lake. Ready to call it your vacation home? Take a look at cabins for sale at Emma Lake today and make your dream a reality. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
And if you have any questions at all about the area or finding your perfect lakefront property, feel free to reach out to me at any time. I’d be more than happy to share all the details about my favourite place to be and hopefully make it yours, too!
